Southwest Airlines is offering steep discounts on flights in honor of its 50th anniversary.

Use the code “SAVE50” (or click here) to apply the deal. Flights to Costa Rica are included in the promo, though the following conditions apply:

• Travel must be booked between today (June 15) and Thursday, June 17.

• The discount is valid for flights between September 15 and November 3, 2021.

• The 50% discount applies to the base fare, and not to taxes and fees. Flights from Costa Rica to the United States are typically more expensive due to Costa Rica’s non-discounted departure tax.

• This promotion applies to all revenue fare types and to Rapid Rewards award tickets.

Southwest Airlines offers an extensive route network within the United States. During the Sept. 15 to November 3 promo period, it will offer daily flights to both Costa Rica airports from Houston (HOU).

The Texas-based carrier, which resumed flights to Costa Rica earlier this month, also flies to Liberia (LIR) from Baltimore/Washington (BWI) and is also launching a new route from Denver (DEN), but those won’t operate during the Sept. 15-Nov. 3 dates.

Using the promotion, we’ve found one-way tickets between Houston and Costa Rica as low as $97:

HOU to LIR, and HOU to SJO both have many $97 flight options.

LIR to HOU, and SJO to HOU, are usually more expensive due to Costa Rica airport taxes.

Flights on Southwest Airlines, while not always the cheapest options available, do include two checked bags and generous change policies.
