Costa Rica's BMX Olympian takes you on a coast-to-coast tour
Kenneth Tencio gives us a coast-to-coast tour of beautiful Costa Rica.
Kenneth Tencio made Costa Rica proud as he finished fourth in the men’s BMX freestyle at the Olympics. The Tico just missed out on medaling, falling 0.3 points short of Declan Brooks (Great Britain) and the bronze.
Tencio’s performance in Tokyo highlights a growing culture of cycling in Costa Rica. On weekends, you’re apt to see dozens of bikers straining their way up mountains, commuting from beach to beach in the south Caribbean, or caroming through jungle trails.

“That’s what freestyle is all about: You can use anything here to train,” Tencio said, before using a tree trunk and an old banana barge as practice grounds.
The 330 km coast-to-coast journey features: Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo de Talamanca; the Zurquí Tunnel on Route 32; Oreamuno, Cartago; Carara, Turrubares; and Garabito, Puntarenas.
